It's Not the Truth, It's a Hypothesis
As one friend put it, instead of seeing our descriptions of what’s happening as “reality” or the truth, we can see them instead as “hypotheses”.
There is a great degree of uncertainty and discomfort in letting go of our usual point of view that we (and often, we alone) actually understand what is going on. It’s quite funny when you realize that each of us thinks that – that we alone see reality accurately and others are all often off base in how they see things. When you look at it logically, it appears obvious that we too must be biased and incomplete in our views much of the time. But it’s not comfortable to realize that. It means accepting a degree of humility, uncertainty and vulnerability into our lives and into our minds.
But in exchange, we would be on our way to a deeper connection with what is, with its attendant aliveness and beauty.
