Exploration:  Uncomfortable Feelings

Pick an uncomfortable feeling  – good possibilities might be ‘defensive’ or ‘untruthful’ or ‘resentful’ or ‘irritated’ or ‘worried’ or ‘controlling’ – and for one day, simply notice when that feeling arises.  There is no value judgment to having the feeling;  these are all naturally-arising human feelings.

The aim is just to notice those feelings as they come up.  Further, notice how your body feels.  Is there any area that is tight, tense or fluttery, or any other sensation?

Also – notice what story you might have in connection with the feeling.

Again, the aim is to become more intimate with what goes on in your mind, emotions and body – not to change it.

“Our intention to get rid of our sins (if we are Christian) or conflicting emotions (if we are Buddhist) as quickly as possible, is the result of avoiding any kind of intimate relationship with our experiences.  If we are not willing to develop that kind of intimate relationship, we cannot grow.”
